CLASSROOM #1 - workshop a cura di SALVATORE LACAGNINA

A partire dal 15 maggio fino al 2 giugno 2008 il Museo MADRE ospita il workshop Classroom #1, a cura di Salvatore Lacagnina - curatore indipendente, già direttore della Galleria Civica di Arte Contemporanea di Siracusa - con Gigiotto Del Vecchio e Stefania Palumbo, curatori della Project Room, con il contributo organizzativo di Francesca Boenzi, curatrice indipendente e responsabile del progetto Exposito – Osservatorio Giovani Artisti Napoli.

Inserito nella programmazione della Project Room del Museo, il workshop vede la partecipazione di giovani artisti napoletani e ricercatori di altre discipline: Francesco Bordo, Celesta Bufano, Christian Carrozza, Danilo Correale, Christian Costa, Giulio Delvè, Federico Del Vecchio, Maria Adele Del Vecchio, Corrado Folinea, Alberta Laurentino, Domenico Antonio Mancini, Luca Mattei, Ventina Miorandi, Moio e Sivelli, Pasquale Pennacchio e Marisa Argentato, Carlotta Sennato, Annamaria Tammaro, Eugenio TIbaldi.

Partendo dai presupposti di apertura e scambio di conoscenze tra diversi campi che sono alla base delle produzioni di cultura contemporanea, il workshop è fondato sul concetto di traduzione.

Il progetto nasce dalla constatazione semplice ma inequivocabile che l’idea di traduzione si è negli ultimi anni spostata e allargata: da stretto ambito di passaggio tra codici linguistici diversi, a fondamento di ogni percorso conoscitivo che si confronti consapevolmente con la società e le infinite possibilità di rappresentazione e approcci conoscitivi e interdisciplinari. Attraverso il coinvolgimento di rappresentanti di varie discipline e ambiti di ricerca – dall’arte alla filosofia, alla sociologia, al teatro – si analizzeranno le problematiche relative al passaggio tra codici espressivi diversi e alla realizzazione di una comunicazione efficace e responsabile. Si indagheranno, dunque, le modalità con cui un sociologo può utilizzare gli strumenti dell’arte, l’arte può diventare strumento di lettura dei fenomeni sociali e incidere sull’azione politica, la scienza può essere tradotta dall’arte in valori simbolici.

Il workshop si articolerà in una serie di lezioni-incontro con visiting professor nazionali e internazionali, curatori e artisti, attori di teatro, professori di fisica, di filosofia, di linguistica, storici dell’arte. Sono previsti incontri con Bianco Valente, Rossella Bonito Oliva, Gennaro Carillo, Adam Szymczyk, Alberto Manco, Flavia Mastrella e Antonio Rezza, Diego Perrone e Lily Reynaud-Dewar, Giulia Piscitelli, Alessandro Rabottini, Peter Saville, Marinella Senatore, Padraig Timoney.

Saranno messi a disposizione dei partecipanti una serie di spazi all’interno del museo da utilizzare come studio durante lo svolgimento dei lavori. Al termine delle tre settimane di workshop sarà allestita negli spazi del museo MADRE, una mostra che raccoglierà i risultati delle discussioni e delle riflessioni sviluppate nel corso delle settimane precedenti.

From May 15 to June 2, 2008 the Madre Museum will host the workshop Classroom #1. The workshop will be included in the schedule of the Museum’s Project Room and will be open to young Neapolitan artists and researchers of other disciplines. It will be curated by Salvatore Lacagnina – independent curator, former director of the Civic Gallery of Contemporary Art in Syracuse – in collaboration with Gigiotto Del Vecchio and Stefania Palumbo, curators of the Project Room, with the contribution and organizational support of Francesca Boenzi, independent curator and person in charge of the project: Exposito – Young Artists Observatory Naples.

Given the openness and exchange of knowledge that lay at the basis of contemporary culture, the workshop will be based on the concept of translation.

The project takes its cue from the simple and unmistakable realization that in the past few years the idea of translation has changed and somewhat enlarged its scope: from being a mere passage from one linguistic code to another, to being the foundation of any cognitive process that deliberately confronts itself with the society and the countless possibilities of representation and of cognitive and interdisciplinary approaches. By involving representatives of various disciplines and fields of research – arts, philosophy, sociology, poetry, history, theatre – the workshop will analyze the issues related to the passage between different expressive codes and to the development of an efficient and reliable communication. We will see how a sociologist can use the tools of art, how art can become a key to interpret social phenomena and affect political action, and how science can be translated into symbolical values by art.

The workshop will be organized into a series of lectures-meetings held by visiting professors from Italy and abroad, theatre actors, teachers of physics and of philosophy, art historians, sociologists, literary critics, and poets. During the workshop the artists will have a space available in the Museum to use as a studio. At the end of the three-week works the MADRE Museum will mount an exhibition that will display the results of the discussions developed during the workshop.
